Usually when you think about Fall flavors, you think of pumpkin or apple and figs always seem to be left behind. I bought figs fresh from the farmers market and was so excited to use them but honestly I didn't know how, besides a charcuterie board.

I looked everywhere to try and find a good recipe and thought dessert would be the easy route. I found this recipe on pintrest and boy am I happy I did. The tender cupcake has bits of fig throughout and the fall spices in the batter (Cinnoman, Ginger, and Allspice) combined to make a delicious spice cake. The warmth of the cake with the freshness of the figs give such a delicious bite. NOW, that cream cheese frosting...O.M.G YUM. I was dancing around with how tasty that is and especially how well it works with the spices in the cupcake.
In all honesty, you never need a special occasian to make cupcakes, heck I made these on a random Tuesday night. If you want to try it, make it! No issues with just wanting a good dessert.

The recipe I used in pinned down below, but I did make a few adjustments throughout the process.
The recipe calls for fig jam, I made my own fig jam from fresh figs, lemon juice, and sugar. I just wanted to add more elements of the fresh fig and control how much sugar was in this dessert.
I did not have cardomom so I used Allspice instead and it added such great flavor!
I baked mine for only 15 minutes, 25-30 minutes would have been far too long and dried my cupcakes out.
For the frosting, I only used about 1/2 cup of powdered sugar because I did not want these to be too sweet.
If you try these, make sure to post a picture and let me know how you liked them! Don't forget to let Allison from Always Eat Dessert know too! #yellowforkfoodblog
